In 1996 I bought a Alesas A-DAT ..For those of you not in the know that's a 8 Track digital record that records on S-VHS tape.
I think I got the unit for $2400, I'm not sure? Now in 2003, I am thinking of selling this deck. Checking on eBAY, is see this unit is going for about [img]graemlins/broken_heart.gif[/img] $250.00.
My unit needs a little bit of work, I'm not sure on the repair cost, it's eating tape at the moment. It has low head hours and is a very clean machine, but it's not NLE. Should I sell it ? That could help me move up to Final Cuts Pro Express for about $300.00 ... Or should I keep this machine in my rack as a conversation pieces and maybe one day I'll need it again?
Any ideas?
Yes I know this is not a Super 8 question it's a post production audio question!

The best way, in my opinion, is to look for ADAT ebay auctions, contact either the sellers or the buyers, and ask them if they have any repair recommendations for you to try.
Who knows what may happen? Be very nice when you e-mail them because they could rat on you for conducting non-auction related business on e-bay.

I would repair it and keep it...you'll never get a price if you sell it that satisfies your heart, and you may regret selling it for cheap once it's gone...it's just like some of my super 8 equipment...wouldn't get squat for it if I tried to sell it, but i'd miss it if I did sell it!

oddly enough there is a repair place right hear in down that can give me an estimate for $20.00. I'll soon know home much it would cost to repair.
Your right, I would not want to look like I was doing an end run on eBay.
So if the repair bill comes in at 60-80 dollars and the selling price on eBay is 250? Should I even try to sell it, keep it and find a use for it somehow?
